Built by Dr. McCardell in 1887, it served as the community's medical facility, and because of its location and the families' love of "the finer things of life" the house was used for the cultural and social events of town. Dr. McCardell willed his home to his daughter, Ethel, who lived there until her death at age 94. Ethel taught first grade at the school which was located across the street.
